Good camera with very limited battery life

I bought this camera
for a recent one week sailing and snorkelling trip. The camera worked very well
in most conditions. There are some issues with the auto white balance
especially when using the flash, but nothing too distracting as my purpose was
not flash photography. Most of the daylight photos, videos and underwater
imagery is pretty good. Took the camera to 10-12 feet depth without any issues.
The only disappointing feature is that the battery is tiny (only 1050mAh
theoretically). If you use the tele/wide feature, it consumes the tiny battery
very rapidly. One recharge lasts only 2-3 hours (about 150 pictures and 10 min
video). Also if you store the battery in the camera, it looses the charge at a
fairly fast rate. So store the battery out of the camera, when not in use and
if you do not have access to recharging. Carrying a spare battery is a must. We
were lucky to have recharging ability in our sailboat, else the trip would have
been sour. I had a spare battery (same as the original one) and had to recharge
both batteries almost everyday. Another negative is that you have to use the
camera to charge the battery through the micro-usb. If you do not have a spare
battery charger (can be bought separately from a third party), then the camera
is occupied to charge your battery. Nikon should have thought of a
larger/better battery for the best use of this good little camera. That is why
I give it 4 stars.
